Photos from a recent trip to the lake to see the flood damage at my parents homes. The amount of water is unreal. Very sad to see the places empty and the beach and homes under water. We are praying for a hot and dry July and August and lots of support from the government.

Kids always seem to bring some happiness to moments like this....cheek to cheek grin on sadie's first quad ride.

Sadie's favorite thing these days is bike riding. On her own bike and her BIG bike (We got a new trail-a-bike which she loves)! For father's day sadie made dad bbq sauce and a card with them riding bikes together! We had the bbq sauce on our chicken sunday night...yum!

we have been super busy lately. sadie turned 4 last week and we had a "jessie from toy story" b-day party the week-end before. thanks to everyone who came over especially those that traveled in! i cannot believe our little monkey is four, i guess i will say that every year!

i can't believe sadie is going to be 4 years old in May....yet lately i keep thinking to myself how old she is when she sais or does something. she is really LOVING coloring lately, is spelling like crazy and her favorite things are still her stuffed animals (1 cat and three dogs), she tucks them in and sleeps with them every night.

Our week in Mexico was great! We enjoyed the warm sun and soaked up the vitamin D. The beach was perfect for an almost four year old to swim and run! Sadie was so good on the plane and at the resort - this was by far our easiest vacation to date!

Our highlights of the trip:

- white sand for as far the eye could see
- homemade salsa and guacamole
- watching layne try to catch sadie running down the beach
- sadie swimming like a fish
- all the creatures to look out for at the resort - monkeys, peacocks, roosters and more!
- trip to xcaret - snorkeling down the canyon, amazing beach and too many animals and fish to count! (dolphins were sadie's favourite)
- laying poolside with strawberry daiquiris for all!
- enyoying our a la carte meals for once -markers and coloring books were to thank for that!
- evening in playa del carmen - only a 45 minute walk down the beach.

Winter holidays have been great! Despite the latest cold temperatures we have been getting out sledding or skating almost everyday. We have also been visiting with friends and family for the past week and a half and it has been a lot of fun. Back to work and reality tomorrow!

Jackson Square in the French Quarter

Dinner last night in the French Quarter

French Quarter

Layne and I are in New Orleans this week, he has work meetings for a few days so I decided to join. We arrived yesterday and we have been walking non-stop!! Although it was the 5-year anniversary of Katrina yesterday, we have seen no physical sign of the damage. From what the locals have told us there was very limited damage to the French Quarter and the surrounding area as the city is above sea level in these areas.

The city has so much history! Our hotel is in the French Quarter and we toured around last night and this morning. It is much larger than expected at 13 blocks wide and aproximately 5 blocks deep. We saw homes and businesses dating back to the late 1700s. There are so many restaurants and bars and Bourbon Street is rockin! We also did a guided walking tour of the Garden District this afternoon - we were the only two for the tour so it was really good and we could ask as many questions as we wanted. The Garden District is a 10 minute streetcar ride from the Quarter and it is the area where all the large homes and mansions were built in the 1800s. Think Benjamin Button...we walked by the home it was filmed in. We also visited a old cemetary and learned about the history of the tombs which is also very interesting.

We spotted our first celebrity, we walked by Harry Conick Jr. hanging out in the airport. Pretty cool!

We took a trip to Minneapolis a few weeks ago and had a great time. We filled our days with time at the beach, hotel pool, mall a.k.a Dora's house, st. paul zoo and city parks. Sadie absolutely loved Nickelodeon Land at the Mall of America - she went on all the rides she was tall enough for!! Grandma D came along to keep us company while Layne was in meetings. Thanks Grandma!

Last week-end was our first camping trip of the year. We spoiled ourselves by staying in a campground cabin (booked 6 months in advance!!) in the Hecla provincial park. Since it poured rain for the first day and half we were really thankful for a dry place to sleep and a little heater to keep us warm. Luckily the weather turned around and we had plenty of time to hang out by the lake, enjoy a few campfires and share lots of laughs with our friends. We are hoping to make this an annual event! 4 girls to 1 boy that is!! Congratulations to the Lafond family who welcomed another beautiful baby girl on June 7th. I was fortunate enough to be there to photograph the birth of the little one, truly a miracle of life! Here are some pre-baby shots. More of the new baby to come!!

Sadie ran in her first running race on the week-end - the kids dash at the Run with Porter race out at Birds Hill Park. It was so cute and she was pretty happy to get a medal at the end. I was almost in tears watching her run all by herself with all the other kids.

I had the flu so I ran a 5km instead of 10km - UGH. Dad & Sadie also walked the 5km loop by accident while they were waiting to cheer me on...I thought they got lost when they were not at the finish line. Baby Green Sprout was also a sponsor of this eco-friendly race - compostable everything and an organic breakfast!! It turned out to be an awesome day with the sun shining bright and not a mosquito in sight!!

Another crazy & fun b-day party this year. We had a Tinkerbell theme per Sadie's request and the girls ran around with their own wings. We managed inside since it was pouring rain and had some excitement with a risk of flood from the lake accumulating at our side door. There was 10 kids , 20+ adults and lots of food to go around. Thanks to all the Dauphinites who drove in and all our friends that came to celebrate Sadie's third birthday.

Big day today with a third birthday to celebrate!

The last three years has really flown by, I can't believe my baby is three! Layne can apparently still hear the screaming (not by sadie) from the day she was born so it will still be a few more years before we watch the birth video.

Started the day with lots of birthday hugs, picking out a dress (surprisingly her choice) to wear to daycare, stopping to get a treat on the way for a special (nut free) birthday snack for all her friends, a nice sunny afternoon with lots of time to play outside, dinner at BP with mom, dad, auntie, uncle and cousin and to top it off - a new bike! Biggest smile ever when she came across her present before we had a chance to give it to her...."what is that bike up there?" it was on the bed in the spare room.

The weather this past week has been amazing. We have gotten so much yard work done and have spent almost every night enjoying dinner outside. We are also expanding our vegetable garden and have been planting perennials and pots. Sadie LOVES her water table and helping out with the watering and planting. She has also been teaching her little cous how to get downright filthy!
